Kevin Phillips: West Brom clearly want last-ditch move for attacking midfielder in January
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has insisted that West Brom are clearly looking to bring in a new attacking midfielder at the end of the January window.
The Albion had been strongly linked with Matt O’Riley, with the player making the move to Celtic from MK Dons, instead.
The Daily Record have reported that the Baggies made a last-ditch attempt to hijack O’Riley’s move to Scotland, but ultimately failed.

“You would have thought so,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“I’ve always said, attacking midfield is the area I’d be looking at, someone who can get goals. Clearly, let’s hope that they can attract that type of player, he clearly had talent the kid.
“From a supporters point of view, they’re looking at that sort of area, it makes sense, which we’ve said every week. Finding the right one is difficult, but that is encouraging that they are looking in that position.”

It is hard to imagine many players wanting to make the switch to The Hawthorns given how sour things have changed
Valerien Ismael is stubborn and doesn’t even play with an attacking midfielder, so any new arrival would need to change his role.
The midfield two behind the front three isn’t working, and our attacking threat is nearly minimal in games we should cruise through, including that defeat against Preston last night.
Signings are desperately needed before Monday, fingers crossed.
In other West Brom news, Steve Madeley has revealed details of a training ground row between Ismael and this Baggies star.
