Valerien Ismael under huge pressure at West Brom

Valerien Ismael is under a lot of pressure at West Brom amid their poor run of form, according to Daily Mail journalist Tom Collomosse.

The Baggies suffered their seventh Championship defeat of 2021-22 at the hands of Preston North End at The Hawthorns on Wednesday (27 January) night, and the fans have had enough.

The result saw Albion move seven points off the top-two, with just two points still keeping them in the top-six.

Collomosse said on his personal Twitter account on Thursday morning: “Big pressure on West Brom boss Valerien Ismael.

“Some players have been unconvinced for a while, some fans practically in open revolt.

“Was given four-year deal when he joined from Barnsley, the club paid substantial compensation.”

Time to wield the axe?

Val-Ball is not producing the results the Frenchman would have hoped for, and it appears the players are not keen on the style.

He has fallen out with goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, with the England international omitted from last night’s matchday squad as a result.

With just a win and three defeats in their last six games, West Brom risk missing out of the play-off places if nothing changes, and there is not a lot of confidence that would happen with Ismael in charge.

They have only managed three straight wins in the league once under the 46-year-old, and that is simply not good enough for a team that wants to be playing Premier League football later this year.

The Baggies are not good enough to finish in the top-two, and while they have a decent squad that has the potential of challenging for the top prize, it appears the head coach is struggling to get the best out of them.

Owner Guochuan Lai will not be keen to see his side miss out on an instant return to the top-flight, and he could very much be open to firing Ismael sooner rather than later.

In other West Brom news, a major multi-million cash boost for Albion set to happen within weeks after Lai decision.
