Alex Palmer on verge of West Brom loan exit despite being in squad v Millwall today

West Brom are set to allow goalkeeper Alex Palmer to join Luton Town on loan, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Saturday [29 January], Crook reported that despite Palmer, 25, being on the bench for the Baggies in their clash against Millwall, the shot-stopper is on his way to Kenilworth Road on a loan deal.

Crook is on the bench at Luton after Valerien Ismael reportedly had a bust-up with Sam Johnstone, who was also left out of the defeat to Preston on Wednesday [Mirror].

Why?

If Ismael has fallen out with Johnstone and isn’t willing to play him, why on earth is he also set to loan Palmer out?

Palmer is obviously West Brom’s third-choice goalkeeper behind Johnstone and number two David Button, who started against Millwall on Saturday.

After that, West Brom have Joshua Griffiths, who’s out on loan at Lincoln City, and then 21-year-old Ted Cann and 17-year-old Ronnie Hollingshead.

Neither of those are good enough to step up to be back-up for Button, so Ismael needs to kiss and make up with Johnstone or either sign a replacement for Palmer.

In all honestly, Ismael’s grudge with Johnstone sounds stupid.

It’s reported that Johnstone was unhappy with Ismael for intending to leave him out of the starting line-up against Preston – a completely nonsensical decision as he’s one of the best English goalkeepers around.

Ismael has also frozen Robert Snodgrass out at The Hawthorns – it seems as though the hapless and stubborn manager really doesn’t stand for players standing up for him.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies have made a late approach to re-sign one of their former players.
