BBC broadcaster reacts when Steve Cooper mooted for West Brom job by fan

BBC Radio 5 Live host Aaron Paul says there’s “no chance” West Brom hiring Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper if they sack Valerien Ismael.

Albion’s 2-0 defeat at Millwall on Saturday saw angry scenes in the away end as fans made it known that they want Ismael sacked.

It remains to be seen how the Baggies top-brass react to what seems like the overwhelming majority of fans wanting Ismael out, but it sure does seem as though any hope of winning promotion this season is going out of the window.

West Brom

After the loss at The Den, a Baggies fan called into BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606 and was asked who he’d have in charge at The Hawthorns if Ismael went.

BBC host Paul said, as shown in a clip on Twitter: “Steve, [name] one name if Valerien Ismael was to leave his post, one name, who would you like?”

Steve replied to say: “I would take Steve Cooper from Forest. But would he come to The Hawthorns?

BBC reporter Paul laughed and said: “I just want to end this call by saying no chance, next.”

Val Out

If West Brom sack Ismael now, it doesn’t matter who they replace him with, they will not win promotion back to the Premier League.

We didn’t have the best bunch of players in the league before Ismael’s arrival but it’s fair to say that the Frenchmen’s signings at The Hawthorns have been very poor and those who stayed have got worse and worse.

Ismael’s fallen out with Sam Johnstone and Robert Snodgrass, two of the most senior players at the club, and has really fan afoul of the fans.

Watching his football is a chore. It’s not fun.

Albion fans are starting to show with the dwindling attendances that they’ve had it with the ex-Barnsley manager, who’s done nothing to show that he can take this team back to the Premier League.

Cooper wouldn’t be a bad replacement for Ismael but he’s not been at Forest for too long and we doubt that the Welshman would be keen on taking a job at a team who his side could overtake in the league on Sunday if they beat Cardiff.

In other West Brom news, Jeff Stelling has shared his verdict on Ismael’s position after the loss at Millwall.
