Enzo Maresca serious contender for West Brom job after Valerien Ismael sacked
Enzo Maresca is a “serious option” for West Brom as they hunt a new manager in light of sacking Valerien Ismael, according to Rob Dorsett.
Writing vis his personal Twitter account after Ismael’s sacking today (2 February), the Sky Sports journalist reported that James Morrison led training today and will continue to do so until a new manager is brought in.
And it looks as though it could be a former Baggies favourite from the 1990s who could take the reins.
Writing on his Twitter account, Dorsett said: “I’m told Enzo Maresca [is] a serious option for West Brom but [the] board, led by new CEO Ron Gourlay, will take time to assess.
“James Morrison took training today, and will continue to.
“Albion were reluctant to lose Ismael (especially after paying £2m compensation) but results [were] just too poor.”

Risky
Maresca is someone who a massive fan favourite at The Hawthorns in the late 1990s before he was signed by Juventus in 2000.
His career saw him play across Europe, winning Serie A with Juventus and two UEFA Cups and a Copa Del Rey with Sevilla.
Since 2017, Maresca has been in the coaching game and has held assistant roles at Ascoli, Sevilla and West Ham before taking charge of Manchester City’s Under-23s between 2020 and 2021.
He was on the Premier League 2 title with Man City last season and, as a result, was hired by Parma as their first-team manager.
However, it didn’t go well for the 41-year-old Italian at Parma and he was sacked in November.
Maresca was supposed to lead a promotion charge in Serie B but instead, Parma are mid-table and without a hope of going up this season.
West Brom may have ended up being in a similar situation if they didn’t get rid of Ismael soon enough and while Maresca was dubbed as “extraordinary” by Pep Guardiola in May 2021 [TuttoMercatoWeb] he may be a massive risk for the Baggies board.
