Nigel Quashie reacts as West Brom sack Valerien Ismael
Nigel Quashie suggests a failure to coach players correctly led to Valerien Ismael’s demise at West Brom.
On 2 February, it was confirmed that Ismael has left his role at The Hawthorns, along with assistant manager Adam Murray.
West Brom’s form is among the worst in the Championship a spot in the play-offs is under serious threat after back-to-back defeats to Preston and Millwall.

Ex-Baggies midfielder Quashie doesn’t like to see managers being sacked but he feels that stuff going on behind the scenes at his former club has played a role in costing Ismael his job.
“Nobody wants to see a manager get sacked at any club,” said Quashie via his personal Twitter account in an instant reaction to the news on Wednesday (2 February).
“There seems too much has gone on behind the scenes [at West Brom].
“It’s about adapting, getting the best out of the players and treating them right.
“In this game, you don’t coach a sport you coach people who play a sport!”

Loads of things have cost Ismael his job.
Ultimately, the terrible form in the Championship is down to him because that squad of players is among the best, on paper, in the league yet he had them playing as though they were a bunch of Sunday League players.
Hoofing it up the pitch, running around aimlessly and creating an abundance of chances but being able to score. Who’s that on?
Yes, it’s on the players and those, who are mostly no longer at the club, who signed those players. But it was Ismael’s woeful, predictable and eye-gauging boring football that led to West Brom being where they are right now in the Championship.
We’re in a situation where if they win their game in hand, Luton can overtake us. Luton.
Ismael had to go, there are no two ways about it.
In other West Brom news, there’s been a major change on the board with a Chinese duo being shifted aside.
