West Brom sack Valerien Ismael and Adam Murray, club shares update on replacement

West Brom have sacked manager Valerien Ismael and his assistant Adam Murray has also left The Hawthorns, it has been confirmed.

After a terrible run of form that has seen the Baggies drop to fifth in the Championship table, the decision has been made to relieve Ismael of his duties and begin the search for his replacement.

In a statement on West Brom’s official website on Wednesday (2 February), it was confirmed that “the process of recruiting a new head coach is now under way and an appointment will be announced in due course”.

Master of his own downfall

West Brom fans have seen it all in regards to managers in the last couple of decades.

We’ve had the good, the bad and the ugly. If you had to play Ismael in one of those categories, it will definitely be in the latter two.

Despite having one of the strongest squads in the Championship, the Baggies find themselves clinging onto a spot in the play-offs with their form over the last six matches being the fourth-worst in the league.

Ismael has to take a lot of flak for that.

We can blame Luke Dowling’s woeful recruitment prior to his exit, we can blame the ownership for their lack of investment and we can blame the players for not pulling their fingers out and playing as well as we know they can.

None of them are avoiding the blame, but Ismael make mistake after mistake in his short-lived spell at The Hawthorns and it was only going to be a matter of time before he was sacked.
