Alex Crook: Alex Bruce set to join Steve Bruce at West Brom as appointment nears

Alex Bruce could be set for a coaching role at West Brom as his father, Steve, closes in on the manager role, according to Alex Crook.

The talkSPORT journalist reported that Stephen Clemence tends to be with Bruce, and his arrival should be anticipated, too.

Bruce has only recently retired from playing and has completed his coaching badges in preparation for his next role.

Writing on his personal Twitter account this afternoon, Crook shared the major update as the appointment nears.

“Understand Alex Bruce could be part of dad Steve’s West Brom backroom team having recently completed his coaching badges,” he said.

“Stephen Clemence tends to be by his side at most clubs so would anticipate him coming too.”

Wow.

This isn’t one of those appointments that will make you ecstatic, but Bruce being appointed manager does make sense in some aspects.

One thing we don’t want, though, are coaches arriving because of their connections, and not because of their pedigree.

Younger Bruce has no real experience of being at such a big club, and would be learning on the job alongside his dad.

Will the likes of Kyle Bartley, who have tonnes of experience be impressed with this appointment? Most likely not.

Having said that, they have to get on with it, and we hope that we can be proved wrong and this can prove to be a winning formula at The Hawthorns.

Bruce has won his fair share of promotions to the Premier League throughout his career, and now it is time for him to prove he can do it again.

In other West Brom news, we’ve assessed seven managers that one report has linked to the job at The Hawthorns.
