The Barmy Army’s hilarious reaction to West Brom links with Steve Bruce
West Brom are searching for a new manager having sacked Valerien Ismael on Wednesday (2 February) and they are already close to appointing a new boss.
According to The Mirror, Steve Bruce is the most likely replacement for Ismael at The Hawthorns and a deal could be complete in the coming days, before the Baggies’ next game against Sheffield United on Wednesday 9 February.
The news prompted the infamous Barmy Army, who follow the England Cricket Team around the world in great numbers, to tweet a rather hilarious response.
In response to The Mirror tweet of the story, the Barmy Army said: “Man down in the Caribbean next month [Laughing Emoji],” in reference to England’s tour of the West Indies.
This comes after Bruce was spotted in the crowd at the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates as England thrashed Australia in the group stage of the competition [Daily Mail].
Good short term solution
At 61 years of age, Bruce is not going to be the long term future of West Brom but he could set it up for someone else to take on.
Right now, the Baggies are in desperate need of someone to steady the ship after the Ismael experiment proved to ultimately be a failure.

Bruce has the knowledge and experience required to stop the downward spiral West Brom have been on and begin to lay the foundations for the next manager to come in, whenever that may be, and carry the club onto the next level.
First and foremost though, Bruce needs to get this group of players in harmony again and playing for each other and for the fans.
He then needs to find a way to get this dysfunctional attack banging in the goals given Reading, who are in a relegation battle, have scored nearly as many goals.
In other West Brom news, this former England captain has also been touted for the vacant manager’s role at The Hawthorns.
