Steve Bruce contract at West Brom includes summer break clause – John Percy
Steve Bruce’s contract at West Brom includes a break clause which means he could leave at the end of this season, according to Telegraph journalist John Percy.
Writing on The Telegraph website, Percy reports that Bruce, 61, has agreed an 18-month deal to replace Valerien Ismael in charge at The Hawthorns.
However, it is understood that the deal includes a “break clause” at the end of this season.

On Thursday night [3 February], Albion officially announced Bruce’s arrival at The Hawthorns on an 18-month deal.
Interesting
West Brom have done away with the long-term strategy they seemed to have in place with Ismael and have instead gone for a short-term one with Bruce.
It’s not clear what the terms are of Bruce’s break clause but it’s easy to assume that it could be triggered if he fails to win promotion or fails to finish inside the top-six.
As it stands, the Albion are sliding down the table and even a place in the end-of-season playoffs is looking a tall order.
We’re in sixth place at the moment but we’re level on points with seventh-placed Middlesbrough and only three points ahead of Luton, who have a game in hand, in ninth.

Bruce’s appointment has understandably caused a mixed reaction among the Baggies faithful but we cannot disagree on the fact that our chances of winning promotion are higher with the ex-Birmingham and Aston Villa boss than they were with Ismael.
It’s a miracle that the Baggies are still in the top-six based on how badly they’ve done since the end of August but we feel that Bruce should breathe some new life into The Hawthorns and hopefully give the players a much-needed kick up the backside.
In other West Brom news, Simon Jordan has revealed a text message he was sent by Bruce ahead of agreeing the job at the Baggies.
