Ron Gourlay admits Steve Bruce is the ‘perfect’ man for West Brom

West Brom chief executive Ron Gourlay has admitted it was Steve Bruce’s ability to get instant results was the defining factor appointing the new boss.

Bruce was imminently appointed at the Hawthorns following the departure of Valerien Ismael with the Baggies form leaving them dangerously close to dropping out of the play off places.

Gourlay admitted Bruce was the ‘perfect’ man for the job with the 61-year-old already having an impact at the Hawthorns.

“And the reason Steve is perfect for us is because we don’t have time, we need to hit the ground running,” Gourlay said as per Express & Star.

“We have got 17 games left and we have got to start winning games very, very, soon. No disrespect to Valerien, but we have seen a nice lift since his arrival.

“I think we have to push on from his now. We have been underperforming there is no doubt about it.”

Right man for the job

As underwhelming as it seemed at the start, Bruce is statistically the best man for the job.

No manager has more promotions from the Championship than him and that is what Albion are so desperate for.

He was, without doubt, the right appointment and has tried and tested methods to achieve what the Baggies need from him.

Understandably, some were upset with the appointment as he isn’t the most glamourous name with some expecting a more lucrative long-term manager but that would have been too much of a risk.

West Brom couldn’t have afforded to appoint a manager with more potential but flaws in other areas, they simply don’t have the time for a manager to adjust and settle at this stage in the season.

The club made the perfect decision with the manager, even with his contract. 18-months gives him more than enough time to achieve what he has been brought in to do and if he is unsuccessful he will be on his way, with no long term headaches.
