West Brom defender Dara O’Shea returns for U23s

West Brom ace Dara O’Shea has made another step closer to returning from his long-term injury.

The centre-back was ruled out for four to six months after suffering a fractured ankle whilst away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

O’Shea has returned to training and picked up some minutes for the U23s this week against Southampton. However, Albion’s game against Sheffield United may come too soon for the 22-year-old.

Like a new signing

The hole that O’Shea has left been felt massively by West Brom. The centre-back position has been like a game of musical chairs this season with various different players being tried out to deal with the Baggies defensive issues.

The Republic of Ireland international has made the position his own since making his Albion debut in 2019 and will be eager to make his return having spent most of the season watching on, wishing he could help the team.

His return is most timely with new boss Steve Bruce needing all hands-on deck as he looks to finish the season with a bang in the shape of Premier League promotion.

He will be able to make some impact, but his return must be gradual. The last things the Baggies need is O’Shea to re-injure himself upon his long-awaited return to the team.

This injury has undoubtedly set him back with his performances prior simply fantastic, but he is a young lad with huge potential with hopefully a very long and successful Baggies career ahead of him.

In other Albion news, West Brom duo Sam Johnstone and Semi Ajayi could return v Sheffield Utd.
