Chris Lepkowski lambasts ‘stupid’ West Brom star after flashpoint v Sheff Utd

West Brom found themselves down to ten men in the first half against Sheffield United after Jake Livermore’s wild challenge on the halfway line.

The Baggies were already 1-0 down after Billy Sharp capitalised on poor defending to put the Blades in front after 20 minutes.

Steve Bruce won’t have been pleased by his captain’s moment of madness that compounded his misery on his first game in charge of West Brom.

“Yes the United player did make a meal of it. But it was on the halfway line, pretty much,” Lepkowski tweeted, “Where’s the mental discipline, the ability to read the situation, the composure? He’s a 32-y-o not a 17-y-o. Stupid challenge to commit to.”

Must learn

How often does Livermore need to get sent off before he learns? He’s supposed to lead by example as captain and he isn’t right now.

If that was on the edge of the area and he was the last man back, maybe you can excuse that kind of challenge.

West Brom

But the ball was on halfway, not going anywhere fast so to lunge in like he did is almost amateurish.

You have to ask serious questions as to whether he should keep the armband at The Hawthorns with other players showing more leadership qualities than the 32-year-old.

Bruce will definitely be considering it as he cannot afford his leader to act like he did at Bramall Lane.
