West Brom attackers ‘the reason I took this job’ – Steve Bruce
West Brom have struggled to find a regular goal scorer in the Championship this season but new boss Steve Bruce has made an unexpected admission about his attackers..
The Baggies failed to score for the third straight game on Wednesday (9 February) as they were beaten at Bramall Lane by Sheffield United, courtesy of a Billy Sharp brace.
It wasn’t the start Bruce had hoped for but he has moved to assure his attacking talent that they were the reason he joined the club in the first place.

“You look at Grady Diangana, Callum Robinson, Matt Phillips, Karlan Grant, Andy Carroll – they are the reason I took the job,” Bruce said, as quoted by the Express and Star. “If we can get them playing anywhere near the level they are capable of then we have a chance.
“They are good players for this league. And I’ve told them that.
“But it’s alright on paper, it’s alright looking at the names. You’ve got to perform. We want them enjoying their football and getting results. And to do that we’ve got to be better in the last third.”
Way off
It’s not like it’s only a handful of goals that West Brom are lacking it’s an absolute bucket load.
Taking just the top scorer Grant makes things even worse as he has just 10 goals to his credit this season.

Compare that to Fulham’s red hot goal machine Aleksandar Mitrovic and it is night and day. The Serbian scored twice against Millwall to take his Championship tally to 30.
It would be foolish to say that the Baggies striker should be hitting the same kind of form because Mitrovic’s season is like we’ve never seen before in the second tier.
Grant could however have matched the likes of Ben Brereton Diaz at Blackburn or Dominic Solanke at Bournemouth who have both fired their clubs towards a promotion push.
The Baggies though have now dropped to ninth and look the least likely to make a charge back towards the playoffs, it’s a big job for Bruce to guide this ship in the right direction.
