‘No brainer’ to bring Jayson Molumby into West Brom team – Kevin Phillips

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips feels it’s a ‘no brainer’ to bring Jayson Molumby into the West Brom team against Blackburn after Jake Livermore’s suspension was upheld.

The skipper is set to miss the next four games after his second straight red card of the season against Sheffield United last week, leaving Steve Bruce with a selection headache.

But according to former Baggies striker Phillips, it’s a clear choice to bring Irish midfielder Molumby into the fold and give him an opportunity in the team.

“You would have thought so,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

“I think Steve Bruce now will be assessing the squad, and what he has to do is assess it very, very quickly and make decisions very, very quickly.

“That’s probably one of the reasons he’s been given this job, because of his experience having been there, seen it and done it, and he can tell whether that’s the right decision to bring him in.

“But you know it kind of looks like a no-brainer really. Bring him in and give him an opportunity.”

Molumby has made 18 appearances in the Championship this season with eight starts so far.

He’s yet to register a goal or assist but his performances have earned him plaudits from fans and now with an extended run in the team seemingly set for him, he has a big chance to impress the new boss.

West Brom take on Blackburn at The Hawthorns on Monday night, knowing they need a win to close the gap on the playoff places.
