Steve Bruce addresses West Brom players’ discipline problem

Steve Bruce has admitted he has spoken to the West Brom players about their discipline ahead of their clash with Blackburn Rovers.

The Baggies have the worst disciplinary record in the Championship with six red cards since the start of the season.

Bruce’s first game in charge against Sheffield United was hindered as Jake Livermore was sent off needlessly in the first half.

“I’ve looked at all the red cards,” said Bruce as per Express & Star.

“And I’ve had a conversation with the players to say: ‘look you are giving yourself a hell of a mountain to climb if you’re going to keep playing with 10 men.’

“We haven’t won one of those games when we have had a man sent off. Looking at the squad we’re not a particularly dirty squad. We are genuine.

“But we have got to make sure we are better – and we will be.”

Brainless

It’s the basics in football that make the difference. Having 11 men on the pitch at all times obviously gives you a better chance of beating your opponent and West Brom have to take that very seriously from now until the end of the season.

The Baggies would have wanted to top the charts but not the one for red cards, especially when their record is so bad when having a player sent off.

You could maybe forgive the players if the sending offs didn’t have an impact on the result, but the team has failed to win every single time a player has seen red.

The points surrendered in those games could be the difference between promotion or not come the end of the season.

Bruce is spot on for addressing this issue. It simply isn’t good enough for the players and they should be embarrassed to have the worst record in the league – completely unnecessary.
