Kevin Phillips fumed by West Brom goalscoring problems in final third
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has been left frustrated with the goalscoring problems West Brom have encountered this season.
The ex-Baggies talisman has insisted that it is the case of “same old” as both Steve Bruce and Valerien Ismael have struggled to change things.
West Brom have gone hours without a goal in the Championship, despite numerous changes to the side.

“It’s been an issue all season,” he told West Brom News exclusively.
“Ismael was swapping that front three in each game, bringing in players and he was trying to find that consistency.
“From Steve Bruce’s point of view, he’ll probably have the same issue on the training ground, but when you put them out there, they haven’t been putting in the same level of performances.
“You look at all of the stats from the previous manager, he’s gone off what he thinks is right, now starting Andy Carroll, it’s trying to fit him straight into a system that they’ve used for the majority of the season.
“It’s a short period of time for Bruce to get his methods across with Carroll, so it’s just a bit of same old, same old, it’s frustrating.”

Issue.
Unfortunately, the arrival of Bruce simply hasn’t changed a thing.
Ismael was too stubborn in his approach, and he paid the price, something that continues to haunt the Baggies.
Bruce has come in and tried to make subtle changes, but they are yet to make any difference with the Blackburn clash, the peak of the mountain.
Andy Carroll coming in to cover Daryl Dike has not helped, and the American returning would be a major boost.
