West Brom held talks with Mohamed Diame, work permit issues scupper deal - Ryan Taylor

West Brom have held major out-of-window talks to sign free-agent Mohamed Diame in the past week, according to Ryan Taylor.

The Express journalist reported that work permit issues have scuppered a deal for the 34-year-old midfielder.

Steve Bruce was looking for a reunion at The Hawthorns after working closely with the midfielder at Hull.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Taylor shared the major update as free agents are considered.

“West Brom boss Steve Bruce held talks last week over potential reunion with free agent Mohamed Diamé – a former favourite at Hull,” he said.

“Sadly, work permit complications scuppered hopes of any deal. Scotland & MLS still potential options for 34y/o.”

No chance.

Well, Bruce is clearly looking to strengthen his squad with free agents.

Diame likely would have been on a six-month deal as he looks to bolster the midfield for a big push towards the play-offs.

At 34-years-old, though, there would be big doubts whether he still has what it takes to rediscover the levels he was at during his time at Hull.

This is not the way to go, we need legs in there, not another player who is at a similar stage of their career to Jake Livermore.

Of course, the free-agent market limits things, but Bruce would need to have done a lot to convince us that this was the right move.
