Steve Madeley shares reaction from ‘angry’ travelling West Brom fans at Luton Town defeat

West Brom fans inside the stadium reacted with anger to the performance of their team as they headed towards defeat at Luton, Steve Madeley reported.

The Baggies slumped to a poor 2-0 defeat at the Hatters which saw their opponents overtake them in the league, as goals from Cameron Jerome and Allan Campbell were enough for victory.

The second goal sparked the travelling fans to direct their ire at the players after a sloppy performance which meant the team has still not scored a goal under new boss Steve Bruce.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, The Athletic reporter Madeley said: “‘You’re not fit to wear the shirt’ sing angry travelling fans after Albion allow Campbell to cut in from the Luton left and unleash a brilliant right-footed drive from distance that flew past Johnstone.

“This grim season is unravelling at pace.”

Justified

The fans are unsurprisingly miserable with the way things have turned this season, as the Valerien Ismael project ground to a halt, and so far the attempted rescue from Bruce has not got off the ground.

The new manager bounce that would have been hoped for has manifested a solitary point won from three games without scoring.

The club are nose-diving down the Championship table, falling into the bottom half after the result on Saturday.

West Brom

And the goal-scoring issue was brought into even greater focus as calamitous Luton defending went unpunished by the Baggies’ attack.

Karlan Grant was particularly guilty of wasting two opportunities that could have put his side out of sight in a disjointed first period from both sides.

A weak first-time shot after Andy Carroll had capitalised on a poor goal kick was disappointing, then a lob onto the top of the bar with only the keeper to beat after another Luton error suggested it was going to another one of those days for West Brom.

The lack of boos from the fans was seen as a small victory for Bruce in the early days of his tenure, in comparison to the atmosphere around the late Ismael-era showings.

But it looks like the grade period is over and if things don’t improve fast the current boss will be heading the same way before too long.

In other West Brom news, Chelsea are reportedly at the front of the queue to lift another hot prospect out of the club.
