‘Collapsing’ – David Prutton predicts result of West Brom clash v Middlesbrough

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has made his prediction for Tuesday night’s Championship fixture when West Brom travel to take on Middlesbrough.

The Baggies have suffered six defeats in their last seven games and are yet to score a goal under new manager Steve Bruce, with just one point from three games so far.

But Prutton, while writing his column for Sky Sports, believes that barren run in front of goal will come to an end against Middlesbrough, although he is predicting a 3-1 defeat for the visitors.

“That was a setback for Middlesbrough on Saturday as they fell to defeat at Bristol City,” he said.

“They are still in the mix for the play-offs, but it was a chance to start looking further up the table that was missed – with Bournemouth and Blackburn not playing.

“West Brom’s season is collapsing and Steve Bruce has so far proved unable to stem the tide.

“Games come at you so quickly in this league, and just a point and no goals from three games has been a disappointing start. I think they might score at the Riverside, but I can’t see them getting much else.”

Poor

West Brom have been poor for a long time now, and that’s being generous about it. They’ve severely lacked a present up front for goals, although the injury to Daryl Dike did them absolutely no favours in that department.

But they’ve also lost the defensive structure that gave them the best defence in the league at one point during the season.

But the quality that gave the club a huge chance of promotion despite their goalscoring troubles has disappeared and Bruce has really struggled to get anything out of this squad up to now.

Getting on the scoresheet for the first time is a hurdle they absolutely need to overcome, but they need more than that and they need it all ASAP to stand any chance of progress.

The Middlesbrough clash is an absolute must-win game for the Baggies if they want to have a go at promotion, otherwise they may as well give it up and focus on next year.
