West Brom cannot accept worst team since turn of century

It’s no secret that the 2021-22 season is not going how any West Brom fan hoped when the campaign kicked off back in August.

The Baggies have plummeted to 11th in the Championship after six games without a win and just one goal coming in that time courtesy of Jayson Molumby away at Middlesbrough last night.

Even the change in manager from Valerien Ismael to Steve Bruce early in February has done little to change the mood around The Hawthorns with promotion seemingly a million miles away.

West Brom

If the season were to end now, this would be the Baggies’ lowest finish since the 1999-2000 season, most under the charge of Brian Little, when they ended 21st in the old Division One with 49 points.

At least they only need three more points to match that tally but it is still not good enough for a club that should be battling for promotion to the Premier League at an absolute minimum.

Bruce has a good reputation for getting teams promoted from the Championship but he can kiss any hopes of that goodbye for this year if he can’t turn things around immediately.

West Brom

The lowest West Brom have finished upon relegation from the Premier League since the turn of the century is fourth (2006-07 and 2018-19) so to be 11th is almost embarrassing.

There is an awful lot wrong with the Baggies at the moment, some of which are mentioned here by the Birmingham Mail’s Joe Chapman, but they can’t go anywhere with the supporters so disillusioned.

As tough as it may be right now then, the fans need to flock to The Hawthorns for the visit of Swansea City on Monday evening and roar the players home for what will hopefully be the start of the revival.

In other West Brom news, one player received a dismal 3/10 in our player ratings against Middlesbrough with the man of the match scoring 8/10.
