West Brom want to sign Tottenham loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers

West Brom have entered the race to sign United States international Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to TEAMtalk.

The 24-year-old is currently out on loan at Celtic in the Scottish Premiership for what is his seventh temporary exit from North London.

He has played all but one of the Hoops’ league games and has helped them go top of the league by three points over Old Firm rivals Rangers.

The Baggies are one of three Championship clubs in the race, along with Middlesbrough and Bournemouth, but face the most competition from the Premier League.

Burnley, Leicester, Watford, West Ham and Wolves are all reported to be monitoring the American’s progress with a view to a summer move.

Celtic are also keen to sign him permanently and have reportedly agreed to a £10million option to buy clause should they wish to trigger it.

An improvement

Whatever your thoughts on Cedric Kipre and Kyle Bartley, they aren’t really at the same level as Carter-Vickers and if Albion can somehow out-muscle the Premier League big boys and bring him to the Midlands, he would be a fantastic addition.

Having the American alongside Semi Ajayi at the heart of the defence is something no other Championship side could match and that would give them the perfect base to try and earn promotion next season.

But they shouldn’t sprint to spend all of their money on the 24-year-old because they have far more pressing concerns than their defence.

One goal in six games is the big problem for the Baggies so far and they need to focus on attacking talent and getting them to gel together before they turn their attentions to the defence.

Steve Bruce has to get his priorities right and ensure they don’t waste money on unnecessary squad depth.

In other West Brom news, this Baggies team, which is the worst since the 1999-2000 season, cannot be accepted any longer.
