Steve Madeley details ‘Horrible’ scenes at The Hawthorns after West Brom defeat v Swansea

West Brom fans booed their own players away in a ‘horrible’ atmosphere at The Hawthorns after the team fell to another 2-0 defeat against Swansea on Monday night.

The Baggies struggled once again under new manager Steve Bruce as they made it six defeats in seven games with just one goal scored in that time, as two late goals condemned them against the Welsh side.

But following the game, the players attempted to applaud the fans to thank them for their support and they were met with a chorus of boos according to The Athletic’s Steve Madeley.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Madeley said that captain for the night Kyle Bartley led some players towards the Brummie Road End and they were booed away from the stand.

They then went to the Halfords Lane Stand and while the reception wasn’t quite as bad, the atmosphere inside the ground after the game was described as “horrible.”

Shocking

When Valerien Ismael left the Hawthorns back in January and Bruce was brought in, it was expected that there would be some immediate improvement and a bounce.

What wasn’t expected was that it could arguably get even worse and that the club would slide into the bottom half of the table with their playoff chances now firmly out of the window.

West Brom

The team still can’t score goals, with just one since he took over and only 11 goals stretching all the way back to October 30th.

That type of poor form could easily make them relegation candidates if it continues with 12 games to go. It’s unlikely, but stranger things have happened in the past.

With the fans not supporting the team on the pitch any more and no sign of improvement from the players or coaching staff, it seems like a long way back for West Brom.
