West Brom manager Steve Bruce slams the state of ‘lopsided’ squad

Steve Bruce has slammed West Brom for the continuous changes that have left the squad “lopsided.”

The Baggies promotion hopes are seemingly over as they find themselves in 13th after a terrible run of form which led to serious questions being asked of the players.

The former Newcastle manager shared the “difficult” selection decisions he faces.

“He (Diangana) played on the left but that is where Karlan Grant has played and that is where Callum Robinson’s best position is too,” Bruce told Express & Star.

“They all want to play on the left. That is what we have got. In midfield too there aren’t many options.

“If you have a lot of change, constant change, it’s difficult because all managers have a different idea. In my opinion that’s the problem, there has been a lot of change.

“And for me, that’s the reason we are a little lopsided in the squad it’s the changes.”

Nightmare

The squad that Bruce has inherited has been assembled over several Albion managers, so it is expected to be somewhat varied.

Four managers over the last two seasons is obviously going to bring some problems in terms of varied personnel but the issues didn’t seem as bad as they currently are until things soured under Valerien Ismael.

Or maybe they were just easy to ignore with West Brom playing quite well in the early stages of the season.

The extent of how bad the problem has been highlighted in recent weeks with the Baggies’ form so bad, exposing the gaping holes and overloaded positions within the squad.

Many blamed Ismael for the terrible Albion form this season but with Bruce struggling just as much as the Dutchman, the focus must turn to the squad and the players within it.

The good news is the former Newcastle manager has the rest of the season to assess his squad and devise a plan for next season, including cutting the dead wood from the squad and bringing in some much-needed fresh faces.

In other West Brom news, Steve Bruce has urged Jake Livermore to learn from his red card.
