Carlton Palmer shares if Sam Johnstone will leave West Brom for Manchester United

Carlton Palmer does not see Sam Johnstone leaving West Brom to join Manchester United in the summer.

The England international was linked with an exit before the current season began and his future still remains up in the air.

Manchester United were among the clubs linked, and Palmer, who offers punditry on Sky Sports, does not see him moving to Old Trafford.

West Brom

He told Give Me Sport, “No. In a simple word, no. It makes no sense that Sam goes there to go and sit on the bench. It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. It’s a World Cup year as well, so he needs to be playing.”

Makes sense

United wanted Johnstone last summer and once they realised he wasn’t leaving, they signed Tom Heaton.

It’s unlikely that they will want to sign another keeper at the end of the season, given how good David de Gea and Dean Henderson are.

Johnstone, whose deal expires in the summer, would certainly fancy a move to the Premier League.

However, he would also want to be at a team that makes him their first choice.

West Brom

A number of sides will be willing to take a punt on him, given the fact that he will be joining them on a free transfer.

He deserves to be playing for England if the Baggies are not promoted, one can understand his reasons to leave.

In other West Brom news, Chelsea want to sign a Baggies ‘Dynamo’ and are hoping to seal the deal quickly.
