Guochuan Lai plans West Brom matchday return this season

West Brom chairman Guochuan Lai will watch another Baggies game before the end of the season, according to reports from Birmingham Live.

The report suggests that Lai has been offering his inputs to the board in recent weeks from his base in China.

Ron Gourlay, who is the club’s new chief executive, handles the club operations at ground level on daily basis.

Fan fury

There have been frustrations among the fans in recent years towards Lai, as many feel that there’s an apparent lack of interest from him regarding what’s going on at the club.

He hardly attends games. Lai was hoping to see the visit of Preston but it was put back because of Covid.

Lai, however, attended the 1-1 draw against Cardiff City, and if he manages to return to The Hawthorns before the end of the season, it will his second game within a space of a few months.

Gourlay is an experienced administrator and he has welcomed the recent board room shake-up.

Lai has taken up the chairman role at the club, and Gourlay feels it is the right decision.

This has been a disappointing campaign so far from the Baggies. The appointment of Steve Bruce has really made a big difference, but the 2-0 victory over Hull City have given them a renewed optimism to put up a strong fight for the play-off places.

In other West Brom news, Masi has also come out to suggest who should be Albion captain in his eyes.
