Ron Gourlay suggests Steve Bruce part of West Brom summer plans

Ron Gourlay has suggested that Steve Bruce is a big part of West Brom plans for the summer.

According to a report from Express and Star, Bruce took his seat for the first meeting of Albion’s new football board earlier this week on Tuesday.

In the meeting, it was decided that everyone need to stick together to get the best out of this squad, and plans for the summer will be made involving the 61-year-old manager.

Gourlay said, as quoted by Express and Star: “We discussed the situation and what we can do for Steve to move the club forward.

“At this stage we’re really just focused on how we can get the best out of this squad.

“It’s important that we stick together as a team, push in the same direction and try to maximise what we’ve got as a team and then we’ll discuss how we go forward.

“We’ve both been very open. We’ve known each other for a long time.

“Planning for the summer has already begun and Steve has been a big part of that process.”

Continuity

The Baggies started the season strongly but they have lost their way mid-season.

A horrible run of just one win in 12 Championship games had all but ended their hopes of returning to the Premier League this year.

There have been suggestions that players are underperforming due to the intense scrutiny from the fans, while some of the players feel that Bruce has made tactical blunders.

However, the last weekend’s 2-0 win over Hull City has sparked a new belief in the team, and it remains to be seen if they can maintain a strong run in their last 11 games.

Bruce only signed an 18-month contract when he replaced Valerien Ismael last month, but Gourlay has made it clear that the former Newcastle manager remains a big part of the club’s plans, irrespective of where they finish.

At the moment, the Baggies should aim to get maximum points from their games and give themselves a chance for the play-offs.

In other West Brom news, Masi has also come out to suggest who should be Albion captain in his eyes.
