Luton uncertain over loan extension for West Brom keeper Alex Palmer

West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer is currently in limbo as to whether he will stay with Luton Town for another week on an emergency loan.

The 25-year-old swooped in to save the day for the Hatters last week as they were without any senior goalkeepers at the club who were fit to play against Middlesbrough.

Luton are currently waiting to see if any of their own shot-stoppers are capable of playing on Sunday against playoff-chasing Queens Park Rangers.

Assistant manager Mick Harford was unable to confirm any news during his press conference to leave Palmer stuck in limbo a little while longer.

“We’re a bit unsure on that position at the moment, it’s something we’re monitoring as we speak, so I can’t give you any more information on that one,” Harford said, as quoted by Luton Today.

“He made a massive contribution, he looked sound, he looked solid.

“He made a couple of good saves throughout the game, so overall it was a really good performance by him and we were really pleased with his performance.”

Johnstone replacement

His impressive stand-in performance at the Riverside Stadium should be a very encouraging thing to see for Baggies manager Steve Bruce.

If the former Manchester United backup does leave for a move to the South Coast, or anywhere else for that matter, then maybe Bruce already has his natural replacement ready in waiting.

Bruce will be hoping Palmer can play again for Nathan Jones’ Hatters this weekend so he can further evaluate his potential as the next Baggies number one.

With West Brom playing tonight (Friday 11 March) he should have the time to watch him play on Sunday either in person or on TV.

In other West Brom news, David Prutton has predicted tonight’s clash against Huddersfield.
