West Brom boss Steve Bruce makes ‘vitally important’ transfer window call

Steve Bruce has sent a stark warning to the West Brom ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Baggies will have to carefully navigate their way through the forthcoming window amid promotion uncertainty as well the marquee signing of Daryl Dike in January.

However, the former Newcastle United manager has urged the Albion to get the drop on their competitors.

“Any successful club, unless you are Chelsea who have change, it’s vitally important to start early,” Bruce reasoned. “The clubs where I have had success, there has been that continuity.

“We would be wrong to not identify the Bosmans of this world, because everyone else is. It’s important we have those conversations and already we are planning for the summer.

“I think that’s normal when you are in March like we are. I think you should be making plans and looking ahead. Loans from the big clubs always help – but usually they are a little bit later.

“Usually, clubs take their young ones away with them and them make a decision on whether they are going to stay with them or go out on loan. When it comes to who is available on a Bosman – we have got to be ahead of the game and target people who we think will improve us.”

Vital

The last thing the owners will be thinking about is the summer transfer window.

Baggies fans know by now that there is a tight grip on the purse when it comes to signings and that is only set to get worse if Bruce fails to gain promotion which looks increasingly likely.

Regardless of whether this team finds themselves in the Premier League or not come next season, the squad is in desperate need of reinforcements.

They have struggled so much this season, as glaringly obvious by their league position and if the owners don’t invest in the team, it will be exactly the same next season.

How could anyone expect things to change if you just stand still?

It would be the perfect time to bolster the squad and give Bruce everything he needs for a promotion charge next season.

That way the new players have a chance to integrate with the team with further budget for signings being available upon promotion. It is vital to cut the deadwood from this squad and replace them with competitive players.
