West Brom confirmed XI v Fulham: Sam Johnstone keeps his place, no room for Andy Carroll

Steve Bruce has named his West Brom starting XI as he looks to extend the unbeaten run to three with the visit of league-leaders Fulham.

It is going to be a major ask with the visitors from West London eight points clear at the top of the table, but they were held to a draw by lowly Barnsley in their last match.

Following the unlikely point against Huddersfield last time out, the manager has named an unchanged line up.

Despite his match-changing display off the bench, there is no place in the starting XI for Andy Carroll, as Callum Robinson and scorer of the penalty Karlan Grant continue in attack.

Johnstone keeps his place in goal after his nightmare against Huddersfield, and Taylor Gardner-Hickman continues in the centre of the park alongside captain Jake Livermore.

Alex Palmer is on the bench with David Button dropping out of the squad.

Things looking up?

After a totally dismal first few weeks to his reign, former Newcastle manager Bruce appears to have come upon some life in his squad.

The first win of his tenure against Hull City was an encouraging result, and the fight shown in rescuing a draw against Huddersfield was positive.

Despite being outplayed for the majority of the game it took two errors from Johnstone, the first an absolute calamity, to gift Danny Ward the visitors their goals.

Aided by a soft penalty, the introduction of Carroll as a second-half substitute saw a late revival that nobody could have seen coming.

The big strikerโ€™s first goal for the club picked up an unlikely point and left the home support in significantly better spirits than they had been just 10 minutes earlier.

There will be no room for the type of errors committed there tonight, as Aleksandar Mitrovic comes to town with 35 Championship goals, 14 more than the next highest total.
