Steve Bruce refuses to get excited over West Brom upturn in form

West Brom have all of a sudden got a spring in their step after positive results against two of the Championship’s best sides in the last week.

The Baggies came from 2-0 down to salvage a point at home to Huddersfield before they dominated the league leaders Fulham on home turf to win 1-0 thanks to Callum Robinson’s strike.

Those back-to-back results, coupled with the 2-0 triumph on the road at Hull City a week earlier, have got the good times flowing again at The Hawthorns as the playoffs begin to look likely again.

Albion manager Steve Bruce is keen to not let the past week of positivity cloud the situation for the Baggies and insists that more of the same has to follow.

“I think there’s been a few harsh truths spoken,” said Bruce, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail. “It wasn’t acceptable (the display against Swansea when they lost 2-0) and I think they realised that.

“The performance against Swansea… you can get beat in a football match, but it’s the manner sometimes, and the manner of it upset everybody.

“It might have been the low point – well I hope it is anyway. We’ve had a decent week, but that’s all we’ve had.”

Right mindset

Bruce is proving exactly why he is the ideal man to lead West Brom at least until the end of the season.

A less experienced manager may be getting all excited and carried away having just beaten the league leaders but that will only ever lead to a dramatic bounce back to earth next time out.

You don’t get the feeling that Bruce will allow any of that kind of complacency from West Brom with his sights firmly set on getting the Baggies back into the playoff picture.

That is what he was brought in to do and it has taken longer than anyone wanted for him to find the solution but now he has that answer, all eyes can start looking up the table rather than down for the first time in months.
