Carlton Palmer shares ‘vitally important’ West Brom plan for next season

Former West Brom man Carlton Palmer has outlined “vitally important” talks Steve Bruce must undergo with the board ahead of next season.

The Baggies are in the midst of mounting their last-ditch promotion push with seven points in their last three games, their best run of form under the former Newcastle manager.

Palmer believes the club should implement a plan with Bruce for next season already, despite there being nine games left to play.

He told GiveMeSport: “Of course, now with nine games to go, I’m sure the board are looking and sitting down and planning with Steve for next season.

“Because the intention was to get promotion straightaway this season, they’ll be very disappointed that they haven’t done that.

“So, it’s vitally important for the next nine games, it’s vitally important in the summer that they get the recruitment right, that they get the squad right, to go in and make sure they get promotion next season.”

Still alive

This is a little bit premature from the former Baggie surely? You can understand the premise behind what he is saying but there is no way on earth Bruce will be conceding this season and looking ahead to next.

He had a terrible start at the club, largely thanks to the players but he has just found his feet, with the unexpected win against league leaders Fulham the perfect example of what 61-year-old is capable of.

The former Hull City manager has left it very late, but he and the players will be giving everything from now until the end of the season to achieve what he initially came in for, rescuing Albion’s promotion dream.

Next season is massive though. Palmer is spot on in saying it is “vitally important” to have the squad in the best shape possible and settle for nothing less than promotion, if Bruce doesn’t work a miracle before the end of the term.
