Steve Bruce believes West Brom ‘have to win’ against Bristol City

Four points from back-to-back games against two of the Championship’s top sides has got the feel-good factor flowing at West Brom once more.

Tuesday’s eye-opening 1-0 victory over league leaders Fulham helped the Baggies into the top half of the league table, just six points off the playoff places.

They now face an entirely different task altogether as they travel south to Ashton Gate to take on Bristol City who sit below Albion in the standings.

Baggies boss Steve Bruce has fresh demands and expectations of his players after their epic week, which also saw them come from behind to draw with Huddersfield.

“Now I’m going to put the pressure on us,” the manager said, as quoted by the Express and Star.

“We’ve got a huge game at Bristol City on Saturday. Can we go and repeat that kind of performance? Let’s hope we can because we have to win.”

Momentum

The actual quality of your players isn’t that important in the Championship these days such is the topsy-turvy nature of the second division.

What Bruce really needs to build is momentum which is something that can carry any team towards success as we saw with Barnsley last season.

It can work both ways too, as Albion fans know all too well this campaign, but now Bruce has the chance to build plenty of positive, forward momentum which should be enough to see them enter the playoff race and come out on top.

The former Wales striker has found the ideal system for him and his squad after a month of trial and error (mainly error) and now he can push forward with a settled team full of confidence, finally!
