Steve Bruce delivers verdict on West Brom 2-2 draw v Bristol City
By Andrew Odiwe
West Brom may have secured a point with virtually the last kick of the game in their 2-2 draw at Bristol City on Sunday, but Steve Bruce wasn’t exactly jumping for joy.
They came back from two goals with strikes from Karlan Grant and Adam Reach to avoid an 11th away defeat in the Championship.
Bruce believes the club must develop a winning mentality if they’re to keep their ever-fading promotion hopes alive.

He told the club’s official website: “We needed to win. We’re still in there and we’ll never give it up, but we needed to win to keep the momentum going.”
He continued: “You could look at it and say we’ve gone four unbeaten and we’ve scored two away from home again. There are little tiny bits, but we have to have a better winning mentality.”
Tricky
The appointment of Steve Bruce hasn’t gone as planned for the West Midlands side. Seen as somewhat of a Championship promotion specialist, the ex-Newcastle manager has only won two of his nine games in charge, with three draws and four defeats.
They’re now seven points adrift of a playoff spot with eight games remaining.

Can they make a legit promotion push? Of course. We’ve seen teams hit form at the tail end of the campaign plenty of times and sneak into the top-six. And arguably, Steve Bruce has one of the strongest sides at his disposal.
It would be good to see Grady Diangana have a run in the team. The winger was integral in the Baggies’ last Championship campaign in 2019-20, and on his day can make a big difference at this level.
In other West Brom news, Chelsea want to sign a Baggies “dynamo” and are hoping to seal the deal quickly.
