Mick McCarthy shares West Brom forward Callum Robinson’s best position

Former manager and Sky Sports pundit Mick McCarthy was mightily impressed with West Brom ace Callum Robinson in Ireland’s 2-2 draw with Belgium.

The Baggies forward started the game up front for his national team but was shifted out to the left where he enjoyed much success.

Albion manager Steve Bruce has a lot to consider at McCarthy claimed that Robinson “thrives” when playing in his best position, down the left.

“I thought Callum Robinson played better and better when on that left-hand side,” he told Sky Sports via Birmingham Live.

When asked whether playing on the left-hand side is Robinson’s best position, McCarthy replied: “I think so, because he can go past on his left side and put crosses in or he can come in on his right and shoot. I think he thrives when he plays in that position. A good performance and a deserved draw definitely.”

Not consistent enough

He might have had a good game for Ireland down the left-hand side but he doesn’t show enough there when given the chance. the West Brom fans have watched time and time again this season and it has become very tedious.

What McCarthy says about cutting in onto his right is true, playing out wide would give the 27year-old more space to manoeuvre but he really struggles to beat a man one on one.

He has neither the skill nor the pace to do it consistently and McCarthy might be getting slightly carried away with his analysis of the Baggies striker.

However, hopefully, Robinson can continue this form for his club and make that left-wing position his own in the unlikely fight for a playoff place.
