Jayson Molumby’s £900k permanent deal will backfire on West Brom

West Brom have reportedly already made their first signing for next season with on-loan Brighton midfielder Jayson Molumby to join the Baggies permanently.

Express and Star journalist Joseph Masi reported via his personal Twitter account that the 22-year-old had reached the number of games needed to trigger a mandatory transfer fee.

He claims the figure to be in the region of £900,000 with people within West Brom expecting him to develop further during his time at The Hawthorns.

It’s all well and good tying him down to a permanent deal but he isn’t even a regular starter for Steve Bruce anymore.

In the last four Championship games, Molumby has racked up a grand total of eight minutes on the pitch with two substitute appearances against Hull City and Fulham.

That isn’t really worth spending nearly £1million on especially as it wasn’t even injury that has kept him off the pitch during that time.

Bruce has found the right formula in the midfield now with Taylor Gardner-Hickman bursting onto the scene alongside captain Jake Livermore and Alex Mowatt.

It would be a sign of complete buffoonery if Bruce were to rip up what he’s managed to get working just so Molumby can play that little bit more in a Baggies shirt.

the club may well think twice before including any mandatory appearance clauses in loan deals in the future because no matter how good they think Molumby could be one day, he isn’t a starter right now and there’s little point signing someone to sit on the bench, the academy kids can do that.

In other West Brom news, Valerien Ismael is planning to raid The Hawthorns at his new club with fees in the region of £2.5million being floated about.
