Chris Lepkowski makes West Brom ‘2012’ jibe after 1st half goal v Bournemouth

West Brom got off to a lightning-fast start against Bournemouth as they raced into a two-goal lead in just 12 minutes at The Hawthorns.

Alex Mowatt fired the Baggies in front with a cool left-footed finish that bobbled beyond Cherries keeper Mark Travers after a period of aerial ping-pong in the visitor’s penalty area.

Tall striker Andy Carroll, who was one of two changes made by Steve Bruce after the defeat to Birmingham on Sunday, then doubled the lead just a couple of minutes later.

The veteran ran onto a long ball that deceived the entire Bournemouth defence to keep his cool and slot a finish into the corner of Travers’ net.

Chris Lepkowski loved what he saw from the 33-year-old and even claimed it felt like 2012 to see Carroll score like he did.

“Andy Carroll going at it like it’s 2012,” he said via his personal Twitter account.

Route One

There was nothing fancy in the slightest when it came to Carroll’s goal but Bruce won’t mind one bit.

There was actually something quite majestic about one big hoof up the field leading directly to a goal in swirling wind and rain in the Midlands.

West Brom

It felt like a properly old-school goal that wouldn’t look out of place in a highlight show of an FA Cup first-round game from the 1980s.

It might not be the most glamorous route to goal but given the season West Brom have had, anything will do for Albion fans and Bruce.

Carroll is the perfect man to execute this kind of tactic too which is probably why he was chosen ahead of Callum Robinson and Karlan Grant who started against the Blues at the weekend to no avail.

In other West Brom news, Bruce has plans to take four injured stars overseas during pre-season to get them back fit for the following campaign.
