West Brom try to secure new deal for Dara O’Shea after what Steve Bruce told media
West Brom want to get Dara O’Shea tied down to a new contract after Steve Bruce tipped him to be Albion’s future captain, according to The Mirror.
The newspaper reported via their print edition on 6 April [page 53] that the 23-year-old has been mooted for a major role at The Hawthorns but his current deal is set to expire at the end of next season.
As quoted by The Mirror, Bruce said: “I like Dara, I think he will be a future captain of this club.”

As O’Shea is about to enter the final year of his contract, West Brom need to ensure that an emphatic decision is made on the Republic of Ireland international as soon as possible.
O’Shea hasn’t played much this season due to a serious ankle injury he suffered at the start of the campaign while playing for Ireland.
Since returning to fitness, he’s played just three times in the Championship and has been an unused substitute for each of the last five matches.

Steve Bruce either isn’t taking any chances with O’Shea suffering a recurrence of that ankle injury or the under-fire Albion manager favours Kyle Bartley, Semi Ajayi and Matt Clarke over him.
Either way, O’Shea remains a young talent who could either fetch the club a decent transfer fee this summer or be offered a new deal that shows he’s going to be a regular starter next term.
There’s no room to have another Sam Johnstone.
O’Shea’s contract cannot be allowed to run down because it sure seems like the Baggies are set for a spell in the Championship and money will start to get tight as parachute payments fade.
