Journo shares fan fury at Callum Robinson during West Brom win v Blackpool, Steve Bruce disagrees

Athletic journalist Steve Madeley shared that West Brom fans booed forward Callum Robinson during the win over Blackpool on Friday, but Steve Bruce disagreed with the fans on this one.

During the second half of the 2-1 win Robinson was played in with a pass but pulled out of a contest with the Blackpool keeper, earning boos from his own fans in the Birmingham Road End at The Hawthorns.

Madeley quizzed the boss about what he heard from the crowd during the game, with Bruce urging fans to rewatch the incident and admitting that their reaction influenced him to substitute the Ireland international.

“I think that the frustration for the whole crowd base was there in that instance,” Bruce said, as quoted by Birmingham Mail.

“That could have been any one of them, and that’s what we have to deal with at the minute.

“I did it to protect him, (it’s) never nice to hear, I have to say, and I think it could have been anybody because I think, in that moment, there’s the frustration of the support, which I fully understand.”

Frustration

It was yet another game that will be largely forgotten in a time period that is probably shorter than the length of the game, because the quality was poor.

It was a bit of a nothing game throughout aside from the goals and one big effort from Taylor Gardner-Hickman in the second half, with fans rightly annoyed at a lack of effort at The Hawthorns.

In a game that was missing any sort of intensity, it spilled over when fans deemed Robinson wasn’t trying hard enough to get on the end of a pass and they vented their frustrations at him.

Many will tell you that the boos weren’t aimed directly at him, but more the performance as a whole, but it still isn’t a nice thing to hear from the home fans towards their own players.

With just four games to go, the club should be looking to end the season on a high and united to go into next season with momentum and good vibes.
