Steve Bruce vents frustration over point gap after West Brom win v Blackpool

Steve Bruce has vented his frustration on the point gap to the top-six after West Brom won 2-1 against Blackpool on Friday.

Karlan Grant scored a last gasp winner to give the Baggies a dramatic win over Blackpool at the Hawthorns. Andy Carroll also scored, three minutes before the interval.

The win has kept their slim playoff hopes alive, but Bruce has suggested that the frustration is there for everyone to see.

“The gap is five points which is unbelievable,” Bruce said, as quoted by Express and Star.

“It’s what if? We are going to ask that all the time. What if?

“Who knows – in football anything can happen. But I still think we have too much to do. It’s still what if? The frustration is there for all to see.”

Difficult

While mathematically the Baggies can still get into the play-off zone, in reality, it’s really difficult.

It was Bruce’s fourth win in 13 games in charge of the club and it takes the Baggies to 11th in the table.

In terms of results, it was a fantastic day for the club, as other top-six rivals, Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Blackburn all dropped points on Good Friday.

Not only do West Brom need to win their remaining games, but they also have to hope that the teams above them drop points as well to make room for them.

In truth, the Baggies have a mountain to climb. The club should gradually start to shift their focus on the future ahead and make plans accordingly.

The present campaign that started with so much promise has given the Baggies a reality check, and a huge rebuilding task needs to be done in the summer.

Bruce needs to add the right quality of players – be it on loan or free – who can help the club secure promotion next season.

In other West Brom news, Bruce is fearful for his Hawthorn’s future.
