View: Three things learnt in West Brom last-gasp 2-1 win v Blackpool

West Brom rather unconvincingly beat Blackpool 2-1 at the Hawthorns yesterday [April 15] afternoon to move up to 11th in the Championship and five points off the playoff places.

Goals from on-loan striker Andy Carroll and a last-gasp Karlan Grant winner helped the Baggies squeeze past Neil Critchley’s side.

Here are three things we at West Brom News learnt from the game…

West Brom

Carroll the star

Yet again Carroll put in an impressive display and scored to help Albion steal all three points. Nobody would have imagined that being said when West Brom signed American striker Daryl Dike on the first day of the January transfer window but here we are.

The English veteran was signed on a short term loan until the end of the season and the club must extend his deal. Given his age and fitness concerns, the 33-year-old should be signed to another short term contract. He is the perfect backup striker and Dike could learn so much from him.

Bruce unconvinced

Despite another win and stepping one step closer to the top six, Steve Bruce wasn’t a happy man. He expressed his disappointment with his players after they conceded a very poor goal from a set-piece whilst insisting his players have a lot to do.

West Brom

The former Newcastle United manager will be measured on how successful he is in getting this side promoted next season and he knows if they play like that, they have no hope. Thankfully, he has pre-season and the summer transfer window to whip the squad into shape

Late promotion hopes grow

A lot would have to go in the way of West Brom but given the fact a lot already has, a late promotion push isn’t impossible. The Baggies now sit just five points off the playoff places which is as close as they have been in months.

All that Albion can do from now until the end of the season is win all of their games and put as much pressure on the already the teams above them in the table.

In other West Brom news, Bruce is fearful for his Hawthorns future.
