West Brom need major rebuild with 2022 league table a sorry sight

2022 has been a very turbulent year for West Brom with a change in manager at the beginning of February and goal droughts like no other.

The lack of a poacher at the top of the pitch reached its worst during Steve Bruce’s first five games in charge when the Baggies failed to score in any of them.

Things have slightly improved since to stop Albion’s slide down the Championship table but the statistics since the turn of the year still make for grim reading for any West Brom fan.

As reported by Birmingham World, Bruce’s Baggies would sit 19th in the league if only results since the turn of the year were taken into account, only above relegation fodder like Reading, Barnsley and Peterborough United.

Surprisingly perhaps, Blackburn Rovers are also below Albion in this theoretical league table as are Birmingham City (who beat West Brom recently) but everyone else sits above.

Bruce has made some crucial changes since he came in and while some have worked, others have not in a big way and he will need to make plenty more alterations before the Baggies can challenge for a Premier League return.

He already has Jayson Molumby becoming a permanent signing at The Hawthorns for next season but the boss will need to make plenty more additions in the summer while trying to offload some that have failed the litmus test.

Finding a goalscorer should be priority number one although when Daryl Dike is finally fit to play, he could be the man to fire West Brom to the top flight.

More dynamic full-backs may also be on the agenda with Darnell Furlong and Conor Townsend not impressing many around the club and not much in the way of options beyond them.

Whatever Bruce decides to do, it has to be drastic if he wants any chance of being a Premier League manager again with this side.

In other West Brom news, this striker who hasn’t scored for anyone all season must be axed from the club in the summer.
