Joseph Masi says West Brom should look to release multiple senior players

Joseph Masi has suggested West Brom should get rid of numerous first-teamers in the summer by paying them out of their contracts.

The Express & Star reporter replied to a Twitter message on the subject of Albion’s summer business, agreeing with fans that the club needs to refresh the squad by offloading various players either via releasing them or securing loan destinations.

The Baggies face a disappointing finish back in the Championship with mid-table obscurity all but confirmed after Monday night’s 4-0 humiliation at Nottingham Forest.

Big Rebuild

Whichever you look at it it’s been a significantly underwhelming season for West Brom, who after appointing Valerien Ismael were hopeful of an immediate return to the Premier League.

The 46-year-old started well but faded badly before being relieved of his duties in February, with Steve Bruce walking through the door and unable to provide the lift Baggies fans will have been hoping for.

A notable rethink will be needed in the summer to reconstruct a squad that has ultimately underperformed over the course of the season, with a revolving door of departures and incoming likely to help balance the wage bill still containing several on a top-flight salary.

West Brom

Sam Johnstone is already confirmed to be one of those leaving and with the likelihood of others being unhappy with the club’s position Bruce could face some late nights putting together a squad good enough to compete next season.

Offloading a few of those beefy salaries could be the best way forward for the 61-year-old to free up space on the wage bill for some much-needed summer additions.

In other West Brom news, this defender is grateful for the support he has been shown this season.
