West Brom in potential summer swoop for Reading’s John Swift

West Brom have started outlining their targets for the transfer window, with Reading midfielder John Swift likely to be eyed up by the Baggies.

That’s according to a fresh report from the Express & Star (20 April) who report that whilst no official decision has been made whether to pursue the 26-year-old’s signature the club have sent scouts to watch the midfielder on multiple occasions.

With his contract expiring in the summer Swift looks set to leave the Royals and it’s likely Steve Bruce will pursue the Englishman’s services as he looks to rebuild his squad after an underwhelming campaign.

Swift has registered 24 goal involvements in the Championship this season as he looks to have secured Reading’s place in the division for next season.

The Express & Star claims he’s “widely regarded as one of the best players in the Championship”.

Good Start

It’s set to be a summer of major transition at the Hawthorns with plenty of inward and outward business planned to take place in the transfer market.

Bruce has to rebalance and reinvigorate a squad which have underperformed during their return to the Championship, with the aim having to be maintaining a more consistent promotion push next season.

Swift would be a great start towards that goal and would add significant goal threat, something the Baggies desperately need after a season of firing blanks.

Add to that the financially astute aspect of him being available on a free and it’s no wonder Premier League clubs are also keen on the Englishman’s services.

It will be difficult given the competition for his signature but if West Brom can win the race then it will give fans renewed optimism that next season can provide a more positive outcome.
