Steve Bruce lifts lid on pre-season and major rebuild at West Brom

Steve Bruce has admitted that West Brom are already looking ahead to pre-season despite there still being three Championship games to play.

The former Newcastle United boss insisted there is a “major rebuild” that needs to happen at the Hawthorns after yet another hugely disappointing season.

Bruce slammed the Baggies who haven’t been enough as they sit stranded in 12th place.

He told West Brom: “We have to try and finish the season off in some sort of fashion.

“We have three games left, starting with Coventry City on Saturday, and there are nine points to play for.

“I think everyone concerned with this club will accept that this season just hasn’t been good enough, myself included.

“We haven’t been able to arrest the slide, if that’s the right phrase, in the two or three months that I’ve been at the club.

“We need to finish as strongly as we possibly can and put things in place for next year, which will be crucial.

“We’re already planning for pre-season and what’s needed during that time. It’s fair to say there’s a major rebuild which needs to happen.

“The club had a really disappointing season in the Premier League last year. This year, we are in the middle of the table in the Championship and that can’t be accepted at West Bromwich Albion.”

Disgrace

Bruce was supposed to be the man to come in and save the sinking West Brom ship but as many expected when he first took over from Valerien Ismael, he had a very tough job on his hands.

The former Hull City boss and more importantly the players were afforded the benefit of the doubt with claims that the Frenchman’s negative tactics did a number on the squad and they needed to shirk his shocking management style.

In hindsight, it is glaringly obvious that the problem is in fact these players and not the managers.

Of course, the man in charge has some responsibility but for far too long thes Baggies’ players have looked completely uninterested with their performances serving as proof.

In all honesty, 12th in the table flatters this group they have been that bad. Thank god bruce and the Albion chiefs are already looking ahead to next season because there is so much that needs to be changed.
