Steve Bruce to remain as West Brom manager next season

Steve Bruce is expecting that he will remain West Brom manager next season after talks with the board, he revealed in Friday’s press conference.

Bruce took over from Valerien Ismael in February and was tasked with trying to get the club back on track for promotion to the Premier League, however that hasn’t happened and the club sit in 12th in the table.

That had led to speculation about whether the former Newcastle boss would leave in the summer, but he has now revealed that he and the club have agreed on plans for next season and they are finalising plans for him to stay on.

“You can never tell in football but I’ve put all the plans in place and all the conversations I’ve had have been ‘yes’,” he said, as quoted by The Athletic.

“It’s always been my intention to see it through. In our job, we know how precarious it is. But that appeals to me to try to get a squad that is good enough to be at the top end of the division.

“That does appeal to me. I’ve done it before, a few times, so I hope I can do it here.

“I am looking forward to the summer and a freshness in and around the club. I think the club needs it, I think the supporters need it.

“And I think the players that will remain here need some freshness around the place – there is nothing like four, five, six new players walking through the door.”

The club is planning for the future and while the fans may not be in complete unison about Bruce staying on, at least there is no doubt anymore.

Bruce has obviously been made some guarantees, with transfers incoming and players leaving so he will be able to build his own squad to try and secure promotion next year.

He will undoubtedly start the season under pressure because of how he has done so far, but he has got previous for earning promotion and fans should start with a clean slate for the new season.

Daryl Dike will hopefully be recovered and fit to lead the line next season, while new additions to play a system and style that Bruce wants will be key to him getting positive results.

Now that the speculation around his future can stop, the planning for next season can truly begin on and off the pitch and hopefully this time next year Baggies fans will be celebrating.
