West Brom pre-season intentions revealed with trip to Portugal considered

West Brom manager Steve Bruce has begun preparations for next season, with a warm-weather training camp high on the pre-season agenda.

The Express & Star report the Baggies squad intend to reconvene on 23 June after their summer breaks, spending some time at their Walsall training base before jetting off to the Algarve region of Portugal.

Bruce took both Aston Villa and Newcastle to the country in the past and they may well play their first friendly during their stay.

The 2022/23 EFL season begins on 30 July to allow adequate time for matches to be played due to the World Cup in Qatar taking place over winter.

Reset Needed

Mid-table obscurity is not the way anyone associated with the Baggies wanted this return to the Championship to go but that is the reality of the situation and it does not do to dwell on the past.

Bruce has to be looking at ways to galvanise a squad which has ultimately underachieved this season and a trip to an area he is known to like could give him the ideal scenario to work on his ideas for the team going forward.

It remains to be seen how the squad will look come the opening day with Bruce already stating his intention to freshen up his personnel this summer and it would presumably be ideal for the 61-year-old to have some of his targets through the door before jetting off.

A productive pre-season could be just what West Brom need as a springboard for success after the uncertainty at the beginning of this bitterly disappointing campaign.
