View: Shameful West Brom leave Andy Carroll out of options for Supports' Player of the Season award

It’s been a horrible season for West Brom since relegation to the Premier League last year, but they may have outdone themselves on this occasion.

The Baggies released the voting for the Supporters’ Player of the Season award on Thursday afternoon [April 28] but there was a notable absentee from the nominees that fans picked up on.

Despite joining the club in January, Andy Carroll has been one of the best players to wear the stripes and has shown a level of commitment matched by very few in the team.

With his top performances and the fact he wasn’t part of the mess that was the first part of the season, fans were left disappointed when they realised they couldn’t vote for him for the award.

The club should be ashamed of themselves for leaving the former England international out of the voting, as if he hasn’t been in the trenches with the side this season.

Carroll left Reading and made the move and established himself as the first-choice striker under Bruce, in the absence of Daryl Dike.

Even though he’s only managed to find the net on two occasions, it’s the commitment and work ethic that he has shown that have got many fans on board with renewing his deal into next season.

He may not have been at the club long, but he’s without a doubt been one of the best players at The Hawthorns this season and deserved the chance to be rewarded with an accolade by the fans.

The likelihood is the award goes to youngster Taylor Gardner-Hickman, but aside from him Carroll would be a clear front-runner.

What’s the point of having an award for fans to vote on if you’re not going to give them all the options of the first-team squad to vote on.

It may not seem that deep to some, but why would Carroll want to stay at a club that doesn’t wish to recognise his contribution to their season?

Even if he got zero votes then he deserved to be in the list. Especially considering the likes of Grady Diangana and Adam Reach are nominated.
