Steve Bruce wants to snap up Blackburn pair Joe Rothwell and Darragh Lenihan for West Brom

Steve Bruce is chasing Blackburn duo Joe Rothwell and Darragh Lenihan for his “West Brom revolution” according to Alan Nixon.

With money tight the Baggies boss has previously shared that the club had done “homework” on the free agent list ahead of the summer window, and these two are reportedly in his sights.

Bournemouth remain interested in midfielder Rothwell but a move from them is said to depend on whether they promoted to the Premier League, with the Cherries currently sitting second in the table.

Burnley apparently want defender Lenihan but a move could be complicated due to the rivalry between the Clarets and Rovers, while the Baggies can “offer him the wages he wants”, according to Nixon on Patreon.

Lenihan, 28, has made over 250 appearances for the Ewood Park side, including 43 this campaign where he captained them for much of the first half of the season.

Rothwell, 27, has assisted 10 goals in the league this year while also making 43 appearances in all competitions, but was omitted during the January transfer window after expressing a desire to speak to other clubs.

Bruce appears to be honing in on established second-tier operators as he starts to mould the team in his own image.

Sun journalist Nixon calls Rothwell and Lenihan two of “the best free agents in the Championship”, with Tony Mowbray’s side still in with an outside chance of making the playoffs.

The signing of Lenihan would save the necessary transfer fee that is reportedly getting in the way of making Matt Clarke’s stay permanent.

But the glut of defenders that Steve Madeley reported in The Athletic to be a factor in preventing that move will need to be dealt with to make space for another centre back.

Rothwell on the other hand would add some much-needed creativity to the midfield department.

Bruce is apparently looking to implement a more possession-based style of play which looks to feed January signing Daryl Dike.

And 13 goal involvements in the league from the free agent suggests he would suit those plans.

In other West Brom news, the manager believes the club are “close” on a new contract for one first-team Baggies player.
