West Brom should go all out for John Swift after what he said yesterday

With no promotion or relegation to worry about, West Brom seem to already have their eyes on the summer transfer window rapidly approaching.

Back in April, the Express and Star reported that the Baggies were interested in signing Reading midfielder John Swift who has scored 11 times this season for the Royals despite their close shave with the drop.

Albion actually played Swift and Reading yesterday, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from Karlan Grant, and after the game, the 26-year-old addressed his contract situation at the Madejski Stadium.

“To be honest, it’s not really in my hands,” Swift said, as quoted by Berkshire Live. “It’s in the club’s hands. Obviously, there are a lot of players in the same situation – a lot of players out of contract – and I am one of them.

“There are talks going on, but that’s all that’s happening really. Just for me, I’ve got to keep my head down, make sure my injury is right, take a good rest in the summer and see what happens. It’ll be between my agent and the club but at the moment that’s all it is – just talks.”

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, he needs to sort out his future very soon and it looks more and more likely that he won’t be staying at Reading which makes him available for a free transfer.

Considering he has 13 assists to go along with his 11 goals this season, he is surely going to be a highly sought-after individual on the free transfer market.

So Steve Bruce and the Baggies need to act now and fast to try and jump the queue and seal the deal before anybody else can get their noses in.

An exceptional attacking midfielder has been lacking at The Hawthorns all season long and this man could be the answer to all of our problems.

In other West Brom news, there is another Championship assist machine that the Albion are reportedly keen on signing.
